Warm Comforts and Seasonal Joy

There’s something so comforting about this time of year — for me, and I expect, rightfully so, for everyone else. As the weather cools outside, it grows toasty inside, while kitchens fill with new bakes, tables are scattered with arts and crafts, and we get a head start on gifts for our loved ones..

Almost every weekend from now until Christmas is booked with visits, gatherings, and celebrations with the people we love. And in this whirlwind, we continue the traditions that make this season so special — the little moments, the heartfelt preparations, and the excitement of giving.

I hope everyone has a safe and comforting place this time of year to be with family and friends. And if this season inspires you to find your own special home, I’d be honored to guide you on that journey as your Realtor.

DIY Christmas Gifts to Warm Hearts

If you’re looking to add a personal touch to your holiday gifting, here are a few DIY ideas that are delightful and I plan to do myself:

1. Crystal Sun Catchers
Reflect sunlight in your windows with handmade sun catchers. All you need are some crystals, wire, and fishing line. They catch the light beautifully and add a little sparkle to any home.

2. Handmade Blankets
Cozy, thoughtful, and useful, a hand-sewn or knitted blanket can be made to suit anyone’s style. Popular trends right now include chunky knit blankets and fleece tie blankets — both beginner-friendly but make a big impact.

3. DIY Rain Chains
As a realtor, I love seeing these on homes — they add so much charm! You can make them with copper cups, chains, or even recycled materials. Rain chains guide water beautifully from your roof and create a gentle, soothing sound that brings both function and beauty to a home.

4. Personalized Ornaments
Simple painted wooden ornaments or clay shapes customized with names or dates are an enduring classic that carries sentimental value.

Squash: My Current Favorite Food

I love squash — in fact, I eat it almost every day! I often make these dishes weekly just for myself. They’re easy to scale to single servings, light yet satisfying, and perfect for quick lunches or dinners. Squash is versatile, delicious, and packed with nutrients — a true comfort food for this season.

1. Roasted Butternut Squash with Sage and Brown Butter
Butternut squash is rich in vitamin A (good for vision), vitamin C (supports immunity), and potassium (heart health). Simply cube the squash, toss with olive oil and fresh sage, roast until tender, and finish with a drizzle of brown butter. Sweet, nutty, and perfect alongside proteins or grains.

2. Spaghetti Squash with Olive Oil and Parmesan
Spaghetti squash is low in calories but high in fiber (good for digestion), vitamin B6 (supports brain health), and manganese (antioxidant support). Bake the squash until tender, shred into noodle-like strands, and toss with olive oil, garlic, Parmesan, and a touch of chili flakes for a light, satisfying dish.

3. Acorn Squash Stuffed with Quinoa and Dried Cherries
Acorn squash provides vitamin C, vitamin A, potassium, and magnesium. Roast halved squash until tender, then fill with cooked quinoa, dried cherries, toasted nuts, and a pinch of cinnamon. Roast a bit longer to blend flavors — a beautiful, nutrient-rich dish for any table.

4. Delicata Squash with Tahini
Delicata squash is high in fiber, vitamin C, and beta-carotene. Slice it into rings, roast with a light drizzle of olive oil until golden, and then finish with a swirl of tahini and a sprinkle of sesame seeds. The result is creamy, slightly nutty, and naturally sweet — a simple, healthy side.

Wrapping Up

This time of year is about creating warmth, joy, and connection. Between the baking, crafting, gatherings, and seasonal recipes, there’s so much to enjoy. Whether you’re making DIY gifts, preparing your favorite squash dishes, or simply sipping something warm by the window, it’s a season to savor.

So light that candle, pull out your knitting needles, and roast some squash — because these weeks are meant to be cozy, festive, and full of love.
